For Kate Barker and her designer Julia Wright, there is no reason why the everyday should not be beautiful. There is huge pleasure in an elegantly designed product that is both functional and beautiful. The things we surround ourselves with should appeal to all the senses especially touch, sight and smell.
Lime Tree Design was started because a friend of Kate’s pointed out that it might be fun – and so it has proved to be. It also raises money for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research UK, Asthma UK, Children in Need, NSPCC, Rainbow Trust Children’s Hospices, British Red Cross, Beaumond House Hospice and local charities. To date Lime Tree Design has donated more than £10,000 to charities.
Kate’s inspiration is wide and varied. It is her mother’s button box and spinster aunts’ jewellery boxes. The colours and textures of the vintage clothes she collected. It is the funky ‘60s prints which filled her childhood home and the vintage finds from the jumble sale.
